Requirements What is DFC How It Works Sample Tour Grading Scale Learning Log

Once you have logged in, chosen your subject (Discover DC, EcoQuest, etc.) and taken your pre-test, you are ready to go. Each subject has six investigation topics (see graphic below). The subjects are listed along with status bars to show you whether or not your topic is “On Hold” (you haven’t yet begun that topic), “In Progress” (you’ve begun but not completed that topic), or “Completed” (you’ve finished that topic). Also, if you have taken the Final Topic Quiz, your score will show up here as well.

Once you have selected a topic, take the Check for Understanding Quiz and find out what kind of information you will be expected to know for your final topic quiz (see graphic below).

Each topic will have several investigation chapters. For example, if you select “Meet Mr. Lincoln” as your first investigation topic, one of the investigation chapters covers the Life of Abraham Lincoln, and Mary Todd Lincoln (see graphic below). Next to each investigation are two status bars to show you whether you have visited the inverstigation and if you have entered information in your Learning Log for that session.

If you select “The Life of Abraham Lincoln”, several web sites will appear (see graphic below) for you to research. These sites have been selected to provide you with information pertaining to the specific topic, and will prepare you for your Final Topic and Final Course examinations.

By selecting the first hyperlink, you are taken to the “The American Presidency” where you can read about Lincoln’s ancestry, early childhood, and early political aspirations (see graphic below).

Once you have researched each of the web sites, click on the “My Log” link to get to your Learning Log (see graphic below). Use the Learning Log to jot down your thoughts, information that you learned, or any observations you have regarding the topic. Keep in mind – you must complete your Learning Logs in order to be able to take the Final Topic quiz.
